Crowns & Bridges

Crowns and bridges are foundational to restorative dentistry. A crown fully covers, or "caps," a damaged tooth or an implant, while a bridge fills the gap left by one or more missing teeth. Both are fixed prosthetics cemented onto existing teeth or implants, and both are designed to look, feel, and function like your natural teeth.

When Is a Crown Needed?

• A large filling has cracked, or the tooth itself is cracked
• The tooth has been treated with a root canal
• The tooth is misshapen or noticeably too small
• An implant has been placed and needs a visible restoration
• Discoloration is too deep for whitening or a veneer to mask

A crown covers the whole tooth, restoring its shape and size while strengthening it. Crowns come in a range of tooth-colored materials, and we'll help you choose the option that best fits the location and function of the tooth.

How a Bridge Works

A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the teeth on either side of the gap, which are prepared the same way as for a crown. The replacement tooth, or "pontic," is designed to emerge naturally from the gum line. For patients who prefer not to involve neighboring teeth, an implant-supported crown may be a better fit.
